Are you asking what’s the difference between direct thermal printing and thermal transfer printing?

We've narrowed it down for you:

Direct Thermal Printing:

  • Requires a heat sensitive label material
  • Labels only print in black
  • These labels have a shorter shelf life- 1 year or less
  • Direct thermal printers have no ink, toner, or ribbon
  • Labels aren’t prone to heat or sunlight

Thermal Transfer Printing:

  • Requires a thermal ribbon to print
  • Labels can be printed in other colours
  • These labels have a longer shelf life- over 1 year
  • Can accept a wider variety of media than direct thermal models, including: paper, polyester, and polypropylene materials
  • Labels won’t fade in heat or sunlight

There are huge differences between the two printers, but ultimately it comes down to what you’re going to use the printer for.

Think about: Environment, Label Use, Frequency of printing and Budget.

Both add extreme value to your business through fast label printing, allowing you to get back to business.
